Sažetak
The comparative research project Schools@Concerts: Tuning Up for the Music Experience gathered, analysed and compared the data from a number of cooperation projects involving young people’s experiences with classical music. These projects took place in various countries and differed on a cultural, national and individual level. The participants came from Austria, Croatia, Germany, England, Hungary, North Macedonia, Poland and Serbia. In the multiple-case study, a comparative approach was used to explore the different individual cases. The project investigated the aims, expectations and experiences of the students, teachers and hosts participating in the projects, as well as the preparation process and the follow-up activities in relation to a concert visit. The data were collected through interviews and questionnaires ; a pre-post setup was adopted, and validated constructs (musical self-concept, STOMP) as well as open questions were used.In our study, the aim was not only to describe clear concepts, but also to describe multiple approaches and perspectives in relation to concert visits. Teachers and hosts admittedly have different views and goals regarding concert visits, but both are keen to provide significant and positive experiences for students. Our insights into the expectations and goals of teachers and hosts indicate that, although their reasons differ (e.g. giving students the opportunity for musical or educational experiences, providing them with an understanding of live music experiences, or helping them to better understand music), they put a lot of work and effort into organising concert visits for students. What seems to be true from all of the projects is that concert visits must be organised on top of daily school routines, and it is incumbent on teachers to convince students, parents and sometimes school principals that such experiences are worthwhile in order to make them happen.
