Sažetak
Introduction: Occupational kinesiology is a new scientific, teaching, and professional interdisciplinary field of kinesiology. It explores the laws of maximum safety, economy, and functionality of workers' postural and movement habits during performance of different tasks at their workplaces. Occupational kinesiology does not primarily deal with exercise nor with the quantity of physical activity of workers, but with the quality of physical activity, the quality of postural and movement habits of workers in their workplaces. It encompasses functional movements in the workplace with the aim of musculoskeletal disorder prevention. In the field of occupational kinesiology in Croatia, since 2014, several projects have been conducted in the economic and business sector: Lidl Croatia - in-store shopping ; INA - oil company ; Trade Union in Printing and Publishing Industry ; Institute for Expertise, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment of Persons with Disabilities. The latest project in the field of occupational kinesiology is the project of Ministry of Labor, Pension System, Family and Social Policy within the EU project "Development of e-learning, management and monitoring of occupational safety - Educational and preventive activities aimed at preventing musculoskeletal disorders”. The outcomes of this EU project in the field of occupational kinesiology are the research [9] and manual [10]. This paper will give a brief overview and summary of it. Numerous scientific studies have shown that many office workers have problems with symptoms of musculoskeletal disorders [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8]. Previous research has not specified the postural and movement habits, as well as the possible connection between the symptoms of musculoskeletal disorders and postural and movement habits of office workers in Croatia. Objective: The aim of this research was to determine the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorder symptoms and postural and movement habits in the workplace among office workers in Croatia. The problem was to determine the possible connection between postural and movement habits and the prevalence of symptoms of musculoskeletal disorders. Methods: Symptoms of MSD were assessed by using the online survey based on Standardized Nordic questionnaires [7]. Postural and movement habits were assessed by using 10 self-designed photo questions. The connection between postural and movement habits and the presence of musculoskeletal disorder symptoms was determined using a series of logistic regression analyses. Results: In the past 12 months subjects (N 1307) showed most symptoms in the lower back (71.53%), neck (69.93%), shoulders (59.83%) and upper back (56.85%). On average, respondents apply 65% of the mechanisms of cumulative trauma daily. The connection between postural and movement habits and the presence of musculoskeletal disorder is significant. The average connection i.e., average odds ratio of logistic regression analysis of each of the 10 injury mechanisms on the occurrence of musculoskeletal disorders in any part of the body is the OR 3, 15. It can be assumed that incorrect postural and movement habits at office work average increase the risk of musculoskeletal disorder symptoms by more than 3 times. Conclusions: Musculoskeletal disorder symptoms are significantly influenced by incorrect postural and movement habits, especially by static and dynamic spina flexion. Based on the results of the research, the manual "Occupational kinesiology - Correct posture and movement habits and exercises with the aim of keeping the health of the musculoskeletal system of office workers" [10] proposed targeted textual and video recommendations for proper movement and work, as well as exercise program.
