Sažetak
This study aimed to determine the morphological characteristics and flexibility of top-level gymnasts. The study was conducted on five professional gymnasts aged 18 to 25 in the category of the pommel horse. Ten parameters of morphological characteristics and flexibility were measured: body height, body weight, body mass index, wrist diameter, shoulder width, shoulder circumduction test, laying leg raise, side leg raise, leg raise in the prone position, V seat and reach. The sample of subjects in this study has a higher average value in variable body height (176.6 cm) than the optimal one, which is 167.5 cm for the category of the pommel horse. The optimal body weight for the category pommel horse is 66 kg, subjects in this study have a higher average value (68.6 kg) in variable body weight. Significant correlations between morphological characteristics and flexibility were shown only between flexibility tests in the hip. Apart from these correlations, the only positive correlation is between BMI and test seat and reach. Therefore the morphological characteristics and flexibility values in this sample are not significantly related and do not differ pommel horse gymnasts.
