Sažetak
Mongol conquests and the formation of their steppe empire changed the political, ethnic, religious, and economic landscape of larger part of Eurasia. The Christendom's encounter with another nomadic Other (after the Huns, Avars, Magyars, Cumans - just to mention a few) reopened the repository of images and references 'reserved' for such dangerous peoples. These images did not only have a longue durée palimpsestual and axiological character, but were also soaked with powerful emotional content. In short: the reports on the Mongol Other are full of references and symbols that need to be interpreted with the contemporary worldview and cultural frameworks. Also, the emotional content is skillfully interwoven into words and images. The author will discuss various issues of the life in the Mongol empire as perceived by Christian authors. The accent will be put on the elements mostly related to the fields of cultural history and the history of emotions.
