Sažetak
Diocletian’s Palace was built as a lasting memory of Diocletian’s earthly and divine grandeur. The number and distribution of its cult objects as well as its decorative sculpture corresponded well to symbolism of new tetrarchic spirit. Although he built the palace to spend time in it after the retirement, his cult of the imperial figure in it continued to be honored even after the abdication, as the emperor remained Jovius, son of Jupiter, and as such higher in rank than the ruling emperors. He was still dominus et deus who was offered highest divine tributes and rituals. In that way it was the supreme monument of the entire tetrarchy, and of the gods protecting it.
