Sažetak
Early detection and identification of hearing loss and enrollment in early intervention are critical to minimizing the negative impact of hearing loss on the development of communication, speech, and language in deaf and hard of hearing children. Audiologists, otolaryngologists, and pediatricians are experts who play a key role in the initial phase of early intervention for as it is during this initial phase that families are at greatest risk for inadequate information counseling and guidance. The purpose of this article is to gain insight into audiologists', otolaryngologists', and pediatricians' perceptions of their knowledge of early intervention for children with hearing loss, their perceptions of their familiarity with the roles of various experts on a multidisciplinary early intervention team, their perceptions of their familiarity with concepts related to early intervention, and their perceptions of their own roles in early intervention for children with hearing loss. An online questionnaire was created that contained 32 questions. A total of 64 participants took part-49 pediatricians and 15 audiologists and otolaryngologists. Results showed that they rated their knowledge of early intervention as inadequate. Participants rated their familiarity with concepts important to early intervention as superficial and perceived that they do not have sufficient knowledge about the roles of other professionals involved in early intervention. This suggests that audiologists, otolaryngologists, and pediatricians need additional training about early intervention for children with hearing loss.
