Sažetak
Primary education teachers in Croatia gain competencies for conducting music classes in first three grades of primary school. During Teacher Education studies, students are trained in the field of Music Culture, playing and singing, as well as in didactics of music. Regarding that majority of the students do not have previous music experience or music education, learning music performing skills and music performance (playing and singing) represents an immense challenge and often brings them into a stressful situation that emerges the whole spectrum of emotional reactions. The aim is to examine the connection between the emotions that occur while playing an instrument in front of colleagues and different perceptions of one's own music performance skills. The main research aim was verified by an online questionnaire (N=109) on Teacher Education studies of Faculty of Teacher Education University of Zagreb in June 2021. The measuring instrument was used to examine the emotions that occur while playing music through an open-ended question, while the other questions were proven using a 5- point Likert scale. The problem was to enquire about the connection between arising emotions during music performance in front of colleagues and perceived stress, difficulties, and feelings of competence while playing as well as the intensity of practice. The results show that in the presence of discomfort and sadness, the feeling of competence is significantly lower, that the intensity of exercise is significantly higher when there is no emotion of concern, that there is a difference in the feeling of stress, due to a lack of confidence in one's competence, that is, there is a connection between the emotions of fear, happiness and confidence in one's competence. The results point to the need to strengthen the musical competencies of future teachers and encourage positive attitudes, beliefs, and emotions related to music performance skills.
