Sažetak
Ion beam irradiations are considered to be a helpful tool for investigation of radiation damage in fusion materials in the absence of a realistic fusion neutron source. It has been shown that results comparable to those obtained in a fission research reactor can be obtained, however differences in irradiation parameters complicate analysis. Among them is the frequent use of ion beam scanning or “rastering” over the sample. This results effectively in pulsing the beam at a microscopic level as it scans. Such variation in the dose rate can add additional effects to the microstructure of the sample which are not characteristic of the realistic continuous radiation conditions. Working with a large “defocused” beam is therefore recommended, but this makes homogenizing the dose more difficult. In this study we compare irradiations of pure iron conducted in defocused mode and those conducted with a line-shaped beam scanned in one direction at 0.2, 2, and 10 kHz. All samples were irradiated to 0.2 dpa, and later analysed using TEM with specific focus on the high-frequency regime that has not yet been investigated in detail.
