Sažetak
Approximately 50% of all malignant disease in children are solid tumors. Neutropenia is common in patients given cancer chemotherapy and may be severe with cell numbers failling less than o,5x109/l. The severity and duration of neutropenia depends on the drug used, their dosage, how often they are given and how long. Recombined G_CSF stimulates specifically the production of neutrophils from progenitor cells in the bone marrow, speeds their maturation and increases their number in the peripheral blood. The paper presents the results of the application of G_CSF in 50 children with solid tumors, aged from 3 to 14 . G-CSF was applied sc. or in combination iv. in a series of lower doses than usually and normally recommended. Side effects were not observed in any of the children. The results demonstrated the following: in the majority of children, after the 1st and 2nd dose , a marked increse in the number of leukocytes was observed. The differential blood count showed an obvious increase in non-segmented, and later segmented, neutrophylls, and the analysis indicated an increse in monocytes, and movement of granulocytopoesis to the left. Examination of the number of reticulocytes indicated an increase in the number of reticulocytes in more than 50% of the children, and also a finding of acidophyl erytroblasts in the smears of peripheral blood. The children tolerated the application of G-CSF extremly well. In almost all the children a relevant increase in the number of leucocytes and neutrophylls. The results demonstrated that an increase in monocytes had taken place and also reticulocytes and acidophylic erytroblasts.
