Sažetak
Literary translation is a special type of translation activity of a written translation. To carry out a high-quality translation, it is not sufficient to only possess knowledge of the two languages from which or to which the literary text is being translated, but also knowledge of translation techniques (translation transformations). The translation process is the activity consisting of a translator understanding the original text leading to the result - the translation. Literary translation is an author's work and represents the translator's creative activity. Here lies the complexity of literary translation because not only the semantics of the text are conveyed, but also the author's style, the beauty of the word, the atmosphere of the work, which prompts the reader to plunge into the narrative. The aim of the research is the translational analysis of the texts from Russian (as a foreign language) lessons and how translation knowledge affects the general knowledge of the Russian language. The object of the research is the short story “Dark Avenues” by I.A. Bunin and its translation to the Croatian language. Research methods are analysis of the translated text, comparative analysis, and synthesis. The translator is an interlingual and intercultural communicator, who communicates with the source-language text and translates it into the target language, resulting in a translation. Literary translation is an art, it must preserve the author's style, the author's comprehensive world, and expressiveness, taking into accounts the peculiarities of the target language.
