Sažetak
Taking architectural criticism’s mediating role between architecture and its audiences as a starting point, this article discusses how criticism adapted to different media forms. Looking at specific models of architectural criticism, including a wide range of practices ranging from authoritative academic scholarship, international networking (CIAM, TEAM 10) and journalism to participatory approaches (Jane’s Walk), the aim is to examine the effectiveness of architectural criticism’s practices from the 1950s till today. The chapter brings analysis of the urban seminars within the Frames of the Metropolis initiative as a form of searching for potential new purposes for these complexes during the transitional 1990s. This search was characterized by the transposition of experimental methods and ways of thinking about current urban topics at the time. In addition to its importance to architectural practice, this search also raised a series of questions of interest to the public, as well as offering an opportunity to “learn from history.”
