Sažetak
Both theoretical frameworks of group cohesion and collective efficacy conceptualize positive team and individual outcomes as resultants of higher group cohesion and collective efficacy. However, whether such outcomes are more determined by group cohesion factors or collective efficacy is still unclear. Thus, the research aimed to explore the predictive role of group cohesion and collective efficacy in the perception of team success and satisfaction of handball players. We comprised a sample of 149 professional (N = 76) and amateur (N = 73) handball players (M age = 23.38, (4.20) ; Nmale = 55, Nfemale = 94) who completed an online questionnaire that measures group cohesion, collective efficacy, athletes' perception of team success, and satisfaction with the team. To test the contribution of the group cohesion factors and the collective efficacy, we utilized hierarchical regression analyses with the perception of team success and satisfaction with a team as dependent variables, entering group cohesion factors in the first and collective efficacy in the second regression step. Higher individual member's feelings regarding their involvement in group tasks (Individual Attraction to the Group – Task ; ATG-T factor), higher perception of team's uniqueness and togetherness in accomplishing team tasks (Group Integration – Task ; GI-T factor) and higher observational collective efficacy positively predicted the perception of the team's success. Conversely, athletes' perception of the team's togetherness and closeness regarding social activities (Group Integration – Social ; GI-S factor) negatively predicted the perception of the team's success. Individual feelings regarding personal social interaction with the group (Individual Attraction to the Group – Social ; ATG – S) did not predict the perception of the team's success. The ATG – T factor positively predicted satisfaction with the team as well. On the other hand, collective efficacy did not predict satisfaction with the team, and contrary to the perception of the team's success, the GI – S factor positively predicted satisfaction with the team. The ATG – S and GI – S negatively predicted satisfaction with the team at the lower level of statistical significance (p < .1). Different roles of group cohesion factors and collective efficacy in explaining the team success and athletes' satisfaction open theoretical discussion on the diverse nature of individual and team outcomes and thus plausibility for not uniformed theoretical assumptions on their relationship with the collective efficacy and group cohesion factors.
