Sažetak
The authors of this chapter conducted an experiment with university students from the Faculty of Teacher Education in Zagreb in Croatia, who used Duolingo to learn French as a completely new language in a mini course. They were divided in two groups: the first consisting of prospective nursery school teachers and prospective primary school teachers of core subjects in Grades 1-4, and the second consisting of future primary school teachers of core subjects in Grades 1-4 and teachers of English in Grades 1-8. The authors tested the students’ achievement through a self- constructed test and asked them about their experience in a questionnaire. Students from both groups saw the potentials of Duolingo, but prospective EFL teachers had less confidence in the efficiency of the app than the students from the first group. Increased motivation on the part of students in learning by means of this app led to higher test scores.
