Sažetak
Drugs used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) are antihypertensives, and their therapy seeks to prevent the complications of high blood pressure, such as stroke and myocardial infarction. The goal is to investigate the utilisation trends of antihypertensive drugs in Croatia and in some other countries during the period 2007-2011 and also to compare spending related to pharmacological/therapeutic subgroups. The utilisation of antihypertensive drugs in Croatia increased significantly in the period 2007-2011. The overall consumption is lower than in EU and other Western countries, but is higher than in CEE countries. Regarding these results it is necessary to analyze the economic and public health issue in the context of overall health state of the respective population.
