Sažetak
Concrete can be found in various types of environments during its service life, and due to its characteristics and variable properties, the marine environment is one of the most aggressive and complex. The mechanisms of degradation in the marine environment are numerous, and the most pronounced is certainly the corrosion of reinforcement caused by the action of chlorides. When designing the durability of marine structures, current regulations recognize a deterministic approach that provides guidelines for the design of concrete compositions. To meet the criteria of economy and environmental protection, concrete is made of locally available cements and aggregates, while optimizing by replacing part of the cement with byproducts of other industries to reduce carbon dioxide emissions during cement production. The project entitled ‘’Concrete development for sustainable construction in the marine environment’’ aims to develop an innovative concrete mix for 3 classes of concrete exposure to aggressiveness of the marine environment, which will be less susceptible to changes in composition or installation errors or more resistant to action and degradation processes from the marine environment, while promoting green building, i.e., sustainable construction in the marine environment while preserving natural resources. The project will include various tests on reinforced concrete from 5 seaports along the Adriatic coast in the territory of the Republic of Croatia. In addition to assessing the condition of several representative facilities covered by the research, sampling of concrete will be carried out to characterize it at the macro and micro level and collect available data on local specifics and microclimatic conditions of each region.
