Sažetak
Sporting events are becoming increasingly important due to the numerous impacts and benefits they bring, especially those of small and medium size. Policy makers seek to make the investment profitable, therefore, economic impact studies are very effective to assess the economic impact of the event in the community itself and allow a justification in decision making. The aim of this study is to analyse the economic impact of the European Junior Olympic Wrestling Championships in 2019 on Galicia. In order to estimate the impact, the cost-benefit analysis technique was used, considering the data provided by those responsible for the organisation of the sporting event. The main source of income were registration fees, and the biggest costs were associated with accommodation and food provided for the participants. The results showed a slight loss of money which can be compensated by the social and media image benefits. It is important to make a qualitative assessment to determine the true legacy of the event beyond the economic aspects.
