Sažetak
Tis paper gives an overview o attempts o theoreticians to construct a national identitybased on the existence o the national style and regional particularities in the works o the so-called Zagreb School o art photography. Comparing several theoretical texts on photography, irregularly published every ew years in three different political systems, it becomes evidentthat there is no significant difference among them and that same photographers used the same photos, or even purportedly different purposes. Te aim o the paper is to show that thereis no historical oundation or stylistic arguments or what certain photographers and criticscalled “the national or Zagreb style”. Tis specific style merely builds on the early-20 th -century pictorialism and it represents a politically promoted “homeland art” or Heimatkunst shapedthrough the medium o photography.
