Sažetak
This paper deals with literary theory from various perspectives, including but not limited to Russian formalism, structuralism, poststructuralism, and social systems theory. It makes three steps on the path towards clarifying the relation between literature, reality, and knowledge. First, it applies some Hegelian ideas to literary studies, then it discusses the epistemological status of literature in relation to reality, and finally it proposes a research program that rethinks the relation between two different literary styles, such as romanticism and realism, aestheticism and avant-gardism etc.
