Sažetak
In later prehistory of Adriatic, hillforts have had a prominent role in most prehistoric settlement research. They are described as boasting a highly visual and strategic position and are regularly defined as monumental. It is a theory-laden term that is under the influence of traditional culture- historical framework and as such is thoroughly defined in said terms. Hillforts, as constructed concepts, have an important role in perpetuating ideas of cultural change, insecurities, and violence. All the characteristics that are contributed to such sites should be studied as a research assemblage with focusing on all the relations it produces. That being said, several examples of different sites have been documented in northern Dalmatia in recent years through various archaeological methods, such as analysis of areal and satellite imagery and field survey. One common characteristic are drywall structures that encompass smaller or larger areas and form a border. These sites do not correspond to the concept of a hillfort, they do not have a prominent position in the landscape, also they are lacking monumental fortifications and rich cultural layers. As such they are not documented throughout earlier archaeological records. The absence of toponyms inspired by archaeological remains is telling of the place these sites occupy in the lives and perception of the local population. How is the space inside the structures defined? How do these prehistoric enclosures correspond to hillforts and to the interpretation of late prehistoric landscape?
