Sažetak
Antidepressants are drugs used for the treatment of depression and other conditions including anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, and, uncommonly, in some other medical cases. The aim was to show the changes in the consumption of antidepressants over four years and also to compare the consumption to some other European countries. In the period 2008-2011 the consumption and expenditure of antidepressants is in constant increase. The consumption of antidepressants in DDD/1000inh/day is significantly lower compared to their use in Norway, Denmark and Slovenia and also expenditure in Denmark, Norway and Slovenia is significantly higher than in Croatia in the observed period. In the past two decades the consumption of antidepressants in developed countries has been growing steadily, and reason for this may be the social acceptability of depression and greater availability of drugs. However, epidemiological data and additional research are needed to verify this statement.
