Sažetak
Due to their slenderness, pedestrian bridges can vibrate significantly under pedestrian traffic. The most severe pedestrian-induced vibrations are recorded on steel and composite steelconcrete bridges, but lightweight and slender concrete bridges are not spared from the problem. There are many research papers dealing with the problem of establishing acceptable criteria. However, unique criteria have not been established because human perception of vibration is subjective and depends on many parameters (age, gender, mood, weather, time of day, etc.). The perception of vibration acceptability depends on two main criteria: frequency and acceleration. Therefore, comfort criteria are usually defined by a range of frequencies that should be avoided in the design and/or by a limit value for acceleration. Structures whose natural frequencies are outside a certain frequency range are generally not at risk from resonant loads. For structures whose frequencies are within the range, the resulting structural acceleration should be within a specified limit to ensure pedestrian comfort. Most standards/design guidelines in the field of pedestrian bridge design define certain pedestrian comfort criteria that must be met to ensure serviceability with respect to vibration, but they vary significantly from standard to standard. Therefore, the comfort criteria for serviceability of pedestrian bridges have been reviewed and compared in this article.
