Sažetak
As one of the primary forms of water distribution in cities, urban fountains were an integral part of the Roman water supply infrastructure. The report of Sextus Iulius Frontinus, curator aquarum of 1st century Rome, reveals that the city in his time had 630 fountains. They are, in essence, a simple reservoir to which water flows from an outlet. From the 1st century onwards, these fountains were becoming increasingly decorated throughout the Empire. Their basic elements, such as the outlet, became more ornamental and often were used as means of decorating such important urban spaces. Whether as a part of a so-called nymphaeum or even a simple fountain, Roman waterspouts vary in type and motif. Research into these finds in Croatia is almost completely overlooked so the aim of this presentation is to examine several unpublished or unstudied examples of ornamental Roman waterspouts found in Croatia and compare them to finds from the other parts of the Empire.
