Sažetak
The paper discusses the preconditions of literacy in the digital age. Besides pointing to different concepts of literacy – from alphabetism, across reading literacy and concepts such as numerical and visual literacy, to media/digital literacy and multiliteracy – it also highlights phenomena such as transmodal perception and multimodality (Kresss, Cytowic, Marks) and the language-image relationship, relevant to the understanding of digital expression both from a textual perspective and from the point of view of visual studies. Media literacy or, more generally, digital literacy, is also observed pragmatically (Gaines), and as an assumption to the concept of digital rhetoric (Eyman), and in the context of the language of new media (Manovich) that shapes the contemporary information culture
