Sažetak
The paper describes 5G (5th generation mobile telephony) technology, with reference to the use of higher frequencies compared to earlier mobile phone technologies. Frequency bands FR1 (600 MHz-6 GHz) and FR2 (24 GHz- 40 GHz) are significantly higher than the frequencies of 4G technology (450 MHz–3.8 GHz) and earlier technologies (1G-3G). Due to higher frequencies and faster propagation loss of the electromagnetic wave at higher frequencies, the number of base stations needed to cover a particular area with signal is approximately four times higher than the required number of base stations for the 4th generation, which means that greater exposure of humans, animals, plants, and electronic equipment to electromagnetic radiation is possible. Small 5G base stations are also installed in street lighting poles, which can affect trees, hedges, and parks. In some cases, it will be necessary to protect kindergartens, hospitals, schools, agricultural plants, farms, etc.... from the radiation of 5G mobile telephony base stations antennas. Electromagnetic radiation protection measures may include conductive- threaded textile materials, conductive paints, conductive adhesive tapes, window films, conductive wallpaper, conductive canopies, and conductive mesh (for installation in walls, e.g.). These products can attenuate an electromagnetic wave from 20 to 90 dB, depending on the application and frequency range, which means that more than 99% of electromagnetic radiation is attenuated.
