Sažetak
Brief introductory part deals with the purpose of the entity-relationship model as the aggregation of information as required by functional access to the record according to users’ requirements. To explain why the model is applicable to rare book cataloguing the basic characteristics of older books are also mentioned. In the main part of the presentation the application of the entity-relationship model as well as of all possible relationships between three editions/translations of the Marko Marulić’ s work De institutione bene vivendi in the UNIMARC record is examined. The analysis has shown that full UNIMARC bibliographic record, structured on bibliographic principles which incorporate all three groups of entities and their relationships within the group and among the groups, can express all relationships needed to enable access to all relevant description elements. Furthermore, the application of the model in the organisation of rare book cataloguing rules is also examined (modular access) and the level of the bibliographic record is determined. In conclusion the advanteges for restructuring the bibliographic record and reexamination of rare book cataloguing rules are stressed again. In the light of cooperative cataloguing and especially in retrospective projects (e.g. national retrospective bibliographies, union catalogues) such an open record will enable additions on each functional level in order to describe and link all works, editions, translations, manifestations and copies. The development of FRBR, from the point of view of rare book librarian, is needed on the manifestation level (relationship: produced in).The determnination of full bibliographic record for rare books and the expansion of Additon A are also needed. These problems are mentioned in the study but its compilers do not solve them. Furthermore, the development must be connected with the development of FRANAR (The Working Group on Functional Requirements and Numbering for Authority Control) in order to integrate bibliographic and authority records as it already funtcions in integrated bibliographic and authority databases.
