Sažetak
Telekia speciosa (Schreb.) Baumg. is widespread in Eastern and Central Europe and the Balkan Peninsula. Root smoke of this plant is used in inhalations for bronchial asthma in traditional medicine of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Isoalantolactone is the major component in essential oil from underground parts of the plant. The aims of the present study were to analyse the presence of phenolic acids in methanol extracts from the aerial and underground parts of Telekia speciosa and to determine their antioxidant capacity. In addition, volatiles from both parts of the plant were analysed.RP-HPLC method was used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of the extracts. 2, 2-diphenyl-1- picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical assayand theferric reducing antioxidant potential (FRAP) assay were used for evaluation of the in vitro antioxidant capacity. The volatile of aerial and underground parts of T. speciosa were determined with GC-FID/MS.The chlorogenic acid (CGA) and caffeic acid derivatives (CA derivatives) were present in the extracts. The CGA content in the extract from underground parts was 977.8±85 mg/100 g extract while in the extract from aerial parts was 272.0±18 mg/100 g extract. The extract of the underground plant parts had three and a half times stronger antioxidant capacity in comparison with the extract of the aerial plant parts. The volatile constituents were characterized by the presence of a high concentration of oxygenatedsesquiterpenes.Obtained results contribute better knowledge of phytochemical properties of T. speciosa. The data about the antioxidant capacity of this plant have not been found by now. There were no available literature data about phenol acids in T. speciosa except some derivatives of phenol acids from a T. speciosa flowers.
