Sažetak
Anglicisms often bring about different connotations and associations whereas the same is not possible by their domestic replacements. It is, therefore, wrong to claim that they are used at the expense of domestic terms. It can be concluded that the speakers do not only find it easier to express themselves using borrowings than their domestic words but also by the choice of the corresponding borrowing the speaker is also able to express the part of the content. Apart from that, one needs to be careful when introducing domestic words as a replacement for Anglicisms in order not to lose the original meaning of the word. On the other hand, young people are inclined to using Anglicisms and there is a danger of pushing some Croatian expressions out of the language which could result in impoverishing Croatian language making it a “dead” language. That is the reason why young people should be made aware of the need to retain the integrity of our language using Anglicisms only if necessary and as means of enriching the language.
