Sažetak
Croatia was among the first countries in the World to introduce the Digital nomad visa. At the same time, Croatia is also attracting a decent number of migrant entrepreneurs doing ‘regular’ businesses. While digital nomads are offered numerous benefits, migrant entrepreneurs (the Third Country nationals in particular) face an increasing number of obstacles. In addition, their survival since the beginning of 2020 has been threatened by the global pandemic, natural disasters, changes of Foreigners’ Act, Brexit implications, etc. Finally, the public perception of digital nomads and their contribution to the Croatian society appears to be much more favourable than the one of migrant entrepreneurs. Based on the most recent scientific studies and media articles, this paper analyses the current situation and seeks to explore the ways forward for both groups observed. One of the practical implications of this analysis is that for many digital nomads, the only way to extend their stay in Croatia after their visa expiry is to become and be treated as foreign entrepreneurs. Thus, this paper is expected to provide relevant policy inputs and have broader resonance for countries facing similar issues.
