Sažetak
Several forces occurred simultaneously that have given rise to the cultural tourism. Due to the socio-cultural and demographic changes demand for cultural experiences during travel is increasing. At the same time, regional and local economies are turning to tourism as an alternative to decline in their traditional economic base. Finally, cultural sector is increasingly faces with the cuts in public spending and has to capitalise on tourism demand for increased attendance and revenues. However, although cultural sector could benefit from tourism, culture has a broader agenda from those prevailing mostly economical driven tourism sector. The question therefore is to what extent the cultural sector can benefit from tourism and what are the pitfalls of the cultural tourism development for the viability and sustainability of cultural sector.
