Sažetak
Being a musician in multicultural society implicates widening professional perspectives to a vast range of concepts and practices. Although formal music education in many European countries is still dominated by Western art music, the entrance of world music in curriculums opened many possibilities for mutual support of informal and formal learning approaches. The aim of this pilot study is to investigate possible intersections between formal and informal music learning in the context of Jeunesses Musicales International's Ethno intercultural youth gatherings and trainings for Ethno artistic mentors, which connect musicians from different musical and socio-cultural backgrounds. In order to find out what can 'classical' and 'non- classical' musicians can learn from each other, 18 semi-structured interviews were conducted at Ethnofonik AllStars training November/December 2017 with 'hybrid' musicians who have experiences in Western classical music, traditional, folk, jazz and popular music. For the purpose of this research, term 'classical' refers to musicians with background in Western classical music and mostly formally established music-degree programmes, while term 'non-classical' refers to those whose backgroud is in traditional, jazz or/and popular music and non- formal or informal education contexts. Research results showed the potential of mutual support between informal and formal learning approaches within the Ethno, the importance of collaborative pedagogical approaches, as well as the need to redefine the term 'music literacy' in a more broad sense.
