Sažetak
Green infrastructure unites various aspects of spatial analysis into an integral approach, connecting different scales. Its goal is to integrate green areas, especially those fragmented in urban zones, connect them into systems and link them to regional and national networks for integrated management. It is important that green infrastructure plans are considered and implemented in the process of creating spatial planning documentation. A special challenge is the implementation of green infrastructure in coastal urban areas. This area is exposed to numerous development pressures, especially construction, but also significant climate change effects (heat islands, floods, sea level rise, soil erosion, landslides, fires). Intensive construction reduces the remaining green areas, which most often represent the most valuable potential of green infrastructure, thus reducing the possibilities for creating green links to natural hinterlands and increasing the impacts of climate change.The preparation of the Green Infrastructure Study for the City of Rijeka provided a detailed insight into the existing elements of green infrastructure, their condition and spatial layout through an integral analysis of the factors that influenced their design. The study also included the assessment of the potential for development of new functions and proposed a development concept of green infrastructure with guidelines for implementation and improvement of existing and development of new functions.
