Sažetak
Soil management is especially challenging on hillslope soils (e.g., vineyards) due to various water flow processes (vertical flow, surface and subsurface runoff, preferential flow) which can result in more pronounced water and nutrient losses but also in eroded soils. The aim of this study was to identify water flow on the field using infiltration measurements and dye tracer on the top (A), middle (B), and bottom (C) of the investigated hillslope in the inter-row positions. The measurements were performed at the SUPREHILL observatory (Zagreb, Croatia) in May 2022. Dye tracer (Brilliant Blue) was applied on 1 m2 area at three positions along the hillslope (top, middle, bottom) to identify water flow. After tracer’s infiltration, the area was photographed and analyzed using image processing software. Infiltration measurements were also conducted on the soil surface at the hillslope top, middle, and the bottom in three repetitions. Results showed low infiltration values, as well as heterogeneous water flow in the first arable horizon. Combining infiltration results with pronounced preferential flow in the first few centimeters seen in the field tracer experiment suggest the presence of the surface runoff resulting in potential agrochemical losses and soil erosion. These results will be, later in research, additionally combined with the surface runoff and identification of preferential flow in undisturbed soil columns.
