Sažetak
Development of distributed applications has always been a challenge. A number of issues, ranging from the simplest communication to the program execution scheduling has to be resolved when implementing distributed application. Distributed object platforms represent a valuable tool for distributed applications implementation. They provide common base, upon which application specific parts are built. This paper presents comparison of three distributed object platforms for the implementation of the public information system mediator. Mediator provides the support for service development and the run-time support for service providers and users. It contains the general functionalities, Basic Services, that are common to all services. Due to its distributed nature, mediator is built upon distributed object platform. In this paper, we compare Java RMI, .Net Remoting and Web Services platforms through their architecture, programming model and performance characteristics.
