Sažetak
The stationing of LEG VIII Augustavexillatio in Burnum, a military centre on the Delmatian Limes in the province of Dalmatia, was proven by the discovery of a large quantity of tegulae with the stamps of the unit, one part of which was found in the layers of the second construction phase of the military training ground (campus). The finding of a water channel with a tile floor with the LEG VIII AVG stamp is indicative. A stay in Burnum of the whole legion or one of its vexillatio sent from Argentorate, was necessary for the logistical preparation of Emperor Trajan's journey through the province of Dalmatia, marking the beginning of a military expedition to Dacia for the 2nd Dacian War. This segment of the journey is shown in a few episodes on Trajan's Column, which we consider to refer to the departure from port of Ancona, the welcome for Emperor in the colony of Iader and in the legionary centre of Burnum. The construction of several buildings is connected with the imperial passage, and after the end of War was commemorated through the construction of the triumphal arch in Ancona and the monumental entrance gate in Asseria. Only few tombstones of the active legionaries of 8th Augusta was found in Burnum, probably as the result of a relatively shorter stay of the unit compared to that of the LEG IIII Flavia Felix and especially the Legio XI CPF.
