Sažetak
Immortelle, (Helichrysum italicum (Roth) G.Don, Asteraceae) is a widespread Mediterranean plant (1), widely used in natural cosmetics aimed at preventing skin aging. In this work, the cosmeceutical activity of two eco-friendly extracts of H. italicum was investigated. The extracts were prepared using biocompatible solvents, such as water and lactic acid with addition of 2-hydroxypropy-β-cyclodextrin. Their antioxidant and cosmeceutical activity were determined by using the enzymatic and UV/VIS spectrophotometry methods. The free-radical- scavenging activity (RSA) of both extracts was assessed with the 2, 2-diphenyl-1-pycrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method. The cosmeceutical activity was investigated by using anti-elastase, anti- collagenase, and anti-hyaluronidase assays (2). Both of extracts was shown significant greater antioxidant activity compered to positive control (butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA). The extracts (OPT1 and OPT2) were excellent inhibitors of elastase, collagenase, and hyaluronidase. The best activity was shown by the extract richest in phenolic acids (2.11 ± 0.07 mg/mL) and the extract richest in total phenolic content (4.38 ± 0.04 mg/mL) prepared using ultrasonication, high temperature (80 C), high drug/solvent ratio (0.89/10 w/w) and the addition of lactic acid (1.95 %) positively affected the cosmeceutical activity. In all the preformed assays both extracts showed anti-elastase (22.36 ± 0.12 µg/mL and 20.07 ± 0.97 µg/mL, respectively), anti- collagenase (12.04 ± 1.03 µg/mL and 14.39 ± 0.71 µg/mL, respectively), and anti-hyaluronidase (14.31 ± 0.29 µg/mL and 19.82 ± 1.53 µg/mL, respectively) activity. Although the extracts were prepared using methods aimed at saving the time and energy consumption necessary for the evaporation of conventional solvents, they shown significant cosmeceutical activity that could be use in cosmetic products.
