Sažetak
After closing the “digital gap” with access to new technologies and internet communication, types of digital consumption patterns have been identified as a new form of inequalities within individuals and societies. This presentation aims to point how inequality of digital usage is determined by socio-cultural predictors such as type of school, gender and social class via cultural capital within youth in Croatia. Analysis is based on data from survey “Culture in center” which consisted of representative quota sample of high school students (N=805) in Zadar county (Croatia). Digital consumption scale was constructed that measured social, creative and entertainment dimensions of internet and computer usage. Factor analysis established six separate factors: creative, gaming, arts and culture, entertainment, social media and sports and betting online. Analysis and presentation will focus on creative, gaming and arts and culture factors. Multiple regression analysis was used to determine contributing factors to each of the selected factors with type of school, gender and cultural capital as independent variables. Results suggest that creative, gaming and arts and culture factor represent strongest distinctions in patterns of usage along the lines of gender and type of school. Further implications of these finding suggests that more lucrative type of digital consumption (creative factor) is related to structural inequalities that arise from gender and social class relations in the society which enforce these divisions.
