Sažetak
Productivity and innovations in rural areas around the world are limited by funding, human resources, and technology. This results in a slow development of these areas, especially the economy and welfare. One of the potential ways to solve this problem is by developing the so-called smart villages. They represent an ecosystem that has different parts intended for improving the quality of life in a community, and it involves different stakeholders (i.e., academics, private companies, government, etc.). The main topic of the paper is examining the implementation of the concept of the smart village in Croatia and Macedonia. The first part of the paper gives a literature review of the smart village concept and its influence of national development. In the second part, the smart village movement in Croatia and Macedonia is presented, and the similarities and differences are discussed. In the final part, the conclusion and proposals for future research are given.
