Sažetak
It is well known that non-covalent interactions are critical in maintaining the three-dimensional structure of large molecules such as proteins and nucleic acids, and this fact was, and is used in the understanding of the drug – target interactions. This is the basis for many New Chemical Entity discovery programs in Industry and Academia. Moreover, there is also a space for utilization of non-covalent interactions in the development or improvement of properties of existing drugs, or to increase the performance of drug products. Non-covalent interactions can be connected with solid state properties, and with this, one can start designing particular crystal properties. In addition, non-covalent interactions are very important for understanding interactions in solutions, which enables designing drug delivery systems based on understanding interactions on a molecular level in the drug products. Therefore, the scope of this presentation is to present a general concept, as well as to present a case study of utilization of non-covalent interactions in the design of innovative solutions from concept to market.
