Sažetak
The Modernization of Yugoslavia, from the mid 1950s till the early 1970s, opened up the field for architectural research that went beyond mere aesthetics or instrumental functionality. Two design tasks proved to be especially fruitful for testing advanced concepts: socialist welfare institutions and tourist facilities. While these concepts advocated the idea of open systems and stressed the importance of public spaces, they were also tailored to fit specific programmatic demands. The lecture will outline the typological researches that tried to mediate between openness and efficiency and present the contemporary status of several case studies, spanning from gradual informal redesign to total decay.
