Sažetak
In this paper, the author presents some of the ways in which the landscapes of the province of Dalmatia were altered due to Roman economic and/or urbanistic activities. Roman exploitation of natural resources – due to their more advanced technologies – had substantially greater impact on the local landscape than the native populations of the pre-Roman times. The same is true with the urbanistic transformations, especially in building activities in both urban and rural environments, as well as in construction of roads. The paper concentrates on the impact that Roman techniques and cultural patterns had on settlements, especially when compared to the pre-Roman circumstances. In addition, economy-related landscape transformations are presented, such as mines and quarries, but also the rural estates (villae rusticae) that made one of the biggest impacts on the natural landscape considering their layouts, numbers, and sizes.

Napomena
N.B. HRV U radu se nalazi jedna krupna tipkarska pogreška: u §2 piše "notably the Illyricans" umjesto "notably the
Illyrians", pa se čitatelji upozoravaju na tu situaciju. Ukratko, ti su narodi Iliri, a ne Iliričani.
N. B. ENG There is a big typo in the text: in §2 stands "notably the Illyricans" instead of "notably the Illyrians", so,
please, take that into consideration. In short, these peoples are Illyrians, not Illyricans.
