Sažetak
The aim of our study was to evaluate the occurence of bovine and human tuberculosis in animals during 1990-1999 in six Central European countries: Croatia(HRV), Czech Republic(CZE), Hungary (HUN), Poland(POL), Slovakia(SVK) and Slovenia(SVN). These six countries, laying between and Baltic and the Adriatic seas, cover and area of 610 402 km2. Until 1995, a total of 11 880 million head of cattle have been kept in this area, of which 5 901 million were cows. Since 1953 until 1980, sussessful national control programmes were adopted in this region. Between 1990 and 1999, mycobacterium bovis was diagnosed in a total of 1082 cattle herds. The last case of bovine tuberculosis was diagnosed in SVK and SVN in 1993, in CZE in 1995 and in HRV 1998. Apart from local breeds, M. bovis was diagnosed in 37 imported fattening bulls and in 70 free leaving animals other than cattle: European bisons, European deer, domestic and wild pigs, wild goat, bactrian camel, domestic sheep and dogs. A total of 16 animal of five animal species (cattle, domestic pig, elephant, agouti and tapir were infected with M. tuberculosis. A total of 13 animal originated from farms and 3 from zoos.
