Sažetak
The rise in population standards in recent decades has been a constant contributor to the generation of increasing amounts of waste. At the same time, the issue of its disposal and the possibility of its use as an energy source has been the subject of increasing interest of scientists and experts. Resource efficiency, ie sustainable development of the economy and society, is a measure of environmental policy that poses a challenge in Europe as well as in Croatia. As the disposal of untreated waste has become an unacceptable option for the disposal of municipal waste, it is necessary to find a way to recover it materially and/or energetically.Due to the constant generation of new quantities of waste, it can be said that waste is a continuous source of energy. Waste-to- energy conversion is considered to be the optimal / appropriate method for solving waste management issues in a sustainable way. The authors give an overview of experiences in the production and use of RDF (REFUSE DERIVED FUEL) in individual EU Member States: Slovenia, Austria, Hungary, Germany, Croatia. In particular, legislation, waste and waste management, and the economic and environmental justification of using RDF are analyzed. The purpose of this paper is to determine the justification for using waste as an energy source. The aim of this paper is to determine the management and material possibilities for the production of waste fuel in Croatia.
