Sažetak
The dissertation presents, for the first time, detailed data on the qualitative composition, population density, and biomass of phytoplankton in the Neretva Delta. In the period from 1994 – ; ; 1998, samplings were taken at four stations in the delta – ; ; from the lakes Modro Oko, Desne, and Kuti, and the Desanka River. A total of 434 phytoplankton taxa were determined: 55 taxa of Cyanobacteria, 33 Pyrrhophyceae, 9 Chrysophyceae, 182 Bacillariophyceae, 12 Euglenophyceae, 71 Chlorophyceae, 68 Conjugatophyceae and 4 Rhodophyceae. In the region of the Republic of Croatia, 127 new phytoplankton taxa were determined (21 Cyanobacteria, 45 Bacillariophyceae, 32 Chlorophyceae and 29 Conjugatophyceae). The population density of phytoplankton at all the researched stations ranged from 3184 – ; ; 628850 cells l-1. The highest population density was in Lake Kuti, and the lowest in Lake Modro Oko. The chlorophyll a concentration range was 0-5, 11 ľ ; ; g l-1. The highest concentration was in Lake Kuti, and the lowest in Desanka River. The diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) dominated in the qualitative samplings taken at all the research stations throughout the entire research period. Also, the diatoms dominated at most stations in the population density of phytoplankton, except in Lake Kuti where the cyanophyte (Cyanobacteria) dominated. The Desanka River and Lake Desne had the most similar phytoplanktonic communities. Based on the floral composition of phytoplankton, the highest water quality indicator (147) was in Lake Desne, and the lowest (99) in Lake Kuti. The highest number of taxa (54-79) belonged to the betamesosaprobic water quality level. The water purity of the Neretva Delta is rated I-II and II, which satisfies current legal regulations.
