Sažetak
Rationale: The purpose of this study was to assess the state of nutrition of the elderly and to identify factors that contribute to malnutrition of this specific group of respondents. Methods: This study was conducted on 100 subjects at the Center for geriatrics home. Testing was randomized and moving on to more people with 65 years or more, so we have them determine nutritional status using the short version of the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA- SF) for the institutionalized elderly, and body mass index (BMI kg/m2) and factors related to their dietary habits. Subjects were divided into malnourished and those with dietary risk. Results: The mean age of respondents was 80.5±20.5 years, mean BMI 23.6±3.9 kg/m2. 51/100 respondents (51%) showed positive “score” of malnutrition (MNA-SF <12), and when used BMI <22 kg/m2, as an indicator of risk only 29/100 (29%) subjects could be at risk Malnutrition. Of these, 12/51 subjects (23.52%) were malnourished Malnutrition Indicator Score (MIS) <17, 36/51 subjects (70.59%) had a risk of malnutrition, MIS <17 to 23.5, a 3/51 respondents (5.88%) had no risk, MIS >23.51, although the BMI <22. Of the 51 respondents who had MNA “total score” <12, BMI <22 had only 29/51 or 57%, while a BMI 22 had 22/51 or 43%, indicating that BMI has a specificity of 1.0 but low sensitivity of 0.57. Conclusion: Our study indicates that nearly half of respondents (48%), need nutritional support, and food consumption, as well as appetite and chewing, causing problems that are associated with the development of malnutrition. Given the importance of nutritional status in older people, the study we found that the necessary measures and methods of intervention to overcome these problems. We recommend that the elderly aged 65 years or more, after determining the BMI <22 kg/m2, be followed by MNA-SF test, when we want to determine the poorer nutritional status of older persons.
