Sažetak
The COVID-19 pandemics was a great challenge for societies across the world. Many of them are analysed through economic, medical or other approaches, but it seems that bioethical insights are crucial for connecting the all mentioned aspects and related consequences to the essence of every society – its moral values. In this presentation I will show how the context of pandemic and interrelated public health values were politically misused by leading in serious erosion of moral values. I will take the example of Croatian confrontation to the COVID-19 pandemic. Deeply disrespectful behaviour of main institutions and inappropriate communication to citizens led to erosion of the values like elementary trust and respectfulness. Moreover this kind of moral erosion had additional consequences to the general beneficence and well being because the effectiveness of the public health measures is primarily rooted in stable and publicly communicated basic values, such as life and health. Without adequately communication of those values the general bad consequences for society are even more dramatic.
