Sažetak
Significant major events happened in year 2020 like COVID-19 pandemic and three devastating earthquakes near capital city of Zagreb, damaging some hospitals and leading to them being overloaded. Croatian distribution system operator decided to install battery storage system in Zagreb’s distribution grid. Main purpose of the battery is to improve security of supplies to essential consumers in worst-case scenario when the grid might be compromised. Location was chosen to encompass as much of hospitals complexes as possible. Using an optimisation algorithm, it was found that battery with capacity of 3.588 MWh and apparent power of 0.98 MW is able to provide three-hour autonomy for the essential consumers. Also, it is shown that when operating parallel with grid battery can lower overall losses in the by 10% while maintain minimal state of charge needed to supply the essential consumers.
