Sažetak
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, online teaching has become the first and most important method of teaching. Though it seemed quite a viable solution, many problems were encountered both by teachers and students. Teachers had to become acquainted with the new teaching method in a very short time, and had to ensure the equipment and working space at home. Also, students had a similar problem with equipment and working space. The aim of this study was to show some of the most common problems from the students’ perspective and possible ways of solving them. Two platforms were dealt with – Zoom and MS Teams. First, a methodological background will be given starting with the definition of online learning given from Dhawan, 2020 and moving on to Hodges et al, 2020. Other studies dealing with advantages and disadvantages of online teaching from the students’ perspective will also be presented. After that, the results of the survey, carried out among the students of a private college and a state university and a Grammar School will be shown. The purpose of the survey was to investigate the students’ opinion of online English classes, as well as their behaviour during them. Based on the results, the conclusion will be brought and some ideas for future engaging of students in online English classes will be suggested, such as the organisation of the course content, adding a variety of activities, using the tools of the platform like forum, chat, and so on.
