Sažetak
The focus of my research is on the narrative patterns and variations detected within Aristaenetus' epistolary collection (written probably in the 6th ct. AD): - “direct” narration of the events vs. non- direct one (ekfrasis, ethopoieia) ; dialogue vs. non-dialogue narrative form - variations concerning the mimesis of the epistolary form ; letters that resemble “real” letters (narration in the 1st or 2nd person, the usage of greeting formulas, imperatives, vocatives) vs. those that do not. It is my intention - to assess the influence of Aristaenetus’ epistolary predecessors (Alciphron, Aelian, Philostratus) on the narrative patterns of the Collection - to point to Aristaenetus’ most important narrative innovations and to prove that they in fact carve a path towards disintegration of the subgenre - to explore and explain the (expected) influence of Aristaenetus’ innovations on his only epistolary successor, Theophylact (7th ct. AD).
