Sažetak
The results of the underwater archaeological research of the Velebit Littoral conducted in recent years reflected in significant finds that have opened a new chapter in the study of spatial occupation and socio-economic aspects of life in the Velebit prehistory. Located directly on the seahore, several registered sites represent an unique examples of production areas related to the prehistoric salt production. Specific concentration, density and large quantity of documented objects in the form of characteristic ceramic three-horned spindly items together with the enormous amount of highly fragmented pottery sherds of thin-walled recipients represent a very characteristic repertoir of briquetage and provide strong evidence that those sites can be directly linked to the production of salt based on evaporation of saltwater. Building a maritime structures in the form of a communication embankment and an artificially created plateau are part of significant spatial activities in the maritime landscape connected to the salt production which probably occurred during the Late Bronze Age. Spatial analysis of chosen sites for organisation of such kind of highly profitable economic activity provide a great fundament for studying the relationship between man and the sea in the context of the exploitation of valuable resource as a process strongly determined by ecological and geographical variables and technological requirements.
