Sažetak
For the major part, Bajamonti’s correspondence is preserved in the Archives of the Bajamonti’s legacy of the Archaeological Museum in Split within two groups: group A (sign. XII/A, Correspondence concepts) includes concepts of Bajamonti’s lett ers to the other persons and group B (sign. XII/B) with lett ers of the others to Bajamonti. The subject of this study are the abstracts and concepts from the group A in several volumes on 283 pages during the period from 9 August 1771 to 20 July 1800, as rich and valuable source of informations about contemporaries, events, acquaintances, but also of Bajamonti’s own activities and opinions. From the total sequence of the 1244 concepts, we have selected 230 people – domestic and foreign scientists, literates, artists, writers and public fi gures – which Bajamonti is addressing lett ers to in the doorway or continuously. From the aspect of music historiography, the preserved material facilitates reconstruction of the many recent developments and illuminates the social background of the Bajamonti’s creativity which is extremely important for the valorization of his complete work. Equally, it enables some corrections and additions to the already published data on Bajamonti’s legacy revealing the whole web of new topics – from those that issue social, political and cultural conditions in Dalmatia (primarily in Split and Dubrovnik) during the last decades of the 18th century up to the individual, some specialized topics of their own oeuvre, scientifi c and professional interests, literature and exchange of manuscripts and published books and texts. In addition to new data that complement and thoroughly illuminate the life and work of Split historian, in this study we have tried to point out the Bajamonti’s receptivity to the social and intellectual movement in Europe in the late 18th century, as well as his contribution to the affi rmation of their own culture and identity, in order to enlight his place and role in terms not only of Croatian, but also of European cultural history.
